Attack on Titan, a popular Japanese manga series, is being re-imagined in The Sandbox metaverse in a move that should provide a unique experience for fans.
The initiative is being launched after The Sandbox, Copro Corporation, and Minto obtained licensing from Kodansha Ltd., the publishers of the series. The agreement allows them to produce NFTs and purchase and build an Attack on Titan space on LAND (virtual real estate) in The Sandbox. Though details on the new initiative are light, fans can expect interactive and immersive experiences, quests, and games themed around the series.
Attack on Titan is an original story written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. It tells the story of a boy living in post-apocalyptic world who lost his mother to the “Titans” and throws himself into a frightening battle for revenge.
The manga was released in the Bessatsu Shonen Magazine between 2009 and 2021 and has become one of the best-selling manga series of all time. As of November 2023, it has over 140 million copies in circulation and has won several prestigious awards, including the Kodansha Manga Award, the Harvey Award, and the Attilio Micheluzzi Award.
Sebastien Borget, the COO and Co-Founder of The Sandbox, said that the series “has taken the world by storm” and turned “into a global anime and movie phenomenon.” He added that Attack on Titan’s “authentic universe” will now be able to continue and evolve in The Sandbox metaverse.
The Sandbox is one of the most popular virtual worlds in Web3. It has major partnerships with Snoop Dogg, The Walking Dead, The Smurfs, adidas, The Voice, and many more brands and IPs.
