Binance, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, announced on Monday the pending debut of the first Web3 reality show: “Build The Block.” Over the course of its seven-episodes, which will run from May 12th to June 2nd, 12 startups will battle each other to impress a live audience and panel of judges, with the winner receiving an investment from Binance Labs.

Build The Block will take place entirely in the metaverse, with virtual cameras creating the shots and contestants and the judges using digital avatars. According to a press release, this is Binance’s first venture into the metaverse, a term that refers to virtual worlds where users can shop, socialize, and create experiences.

Yi He, co-founder of Binance and head of Binance Labs, said in a statement that the show is the exchange’s latest innovative experiment — the creation of the industry’s first metaverse competition.

“This program has attracted many entrepreneurs and builders alike to showcase their Web3 projects and we hope a platform like this encourages others to innovate even further,” she added. “We believe in the potential of the metaverse and blockchain technology, and will continue to empower creators to build the future of internet together.”

The five judges for the show will be:

  • Yi He
  • Yibo Ling, chief business officer at Binance
  • Guy Turner, co-founder of Coin Bureau
  • Azeem Khan, a member of the WEM’s Crypto Sustainability Coalition
  • Robby Yung, CEO of Animoca Brands

Justin Bratton, the host of Asia’s Got Talent, will be the host Build The Block. Binance has partnered with Lifeform, a metaverse technology provider, to create the virtual avatars in the show.
