Cristiano Ronaldo’s 2nd NFT Set to Debut on July 3rd

Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the best footballers in the world, is debuting his second non-fungible token collection, ‘The GOAT,‘ on July 3rd, in collaboration with the Binance NFT marketplace. The set of digital assets will focus on Ronaldo’s chief skill — his goal-scoring ability — with collectors able to own specific goals out of 838 he has scored in his career.

Some of the goals up for grabs include:

  • #806, which made him the top goal-scorer of all-time
  • #649, his self-proclaimed best goal, a bicycle kick against Juventus
  • #102, called “The Knuckleball”
  • #1, his first ever goal

There will be 29,327 NFTs available in total, broken down into four rarity categories: Normal, Rare, Super Rare, and Super Super Rare. Normal NFTs cost $10, with each representing one of seven designs from Ronaldo’s career goal milestones (goal 100 to goal 700). These NFTs will make up the bulk of the collection, with 28,000 available for purchase.

Rare and Super Rare NFTs will cost $30 and $200 respectively, with Rare NFTs featuring six designs based on an iconic Ronaldo goal and Super Rare NFTs representing some of the biggest moments in the footballer’s career. There will be 1,200 Rare NFTs up for grabs and just 120 Super Rare NFTs that collectors can purchase.

Super Super Rare NFTs are the most exclusive digital assets in the collection. There will be just seven created, with six going up for auction on July 3rd at 10 am EST. These NFTs will focus on just one goal — Ronaldo’s bicycle kick — and bidding will start at $15,000. Binance will reserve one of the seven for a giveaway in the future.

Each NFT will come with utility, depending on rarity level:

  • Normal: A recorded thank you message from Ronaldo and entry in future giveaways
  • Rare: In addition to the ‘normal’ level utilities, a signed Binance x Ronaldo poster
  • Super Rare: A special video from Ronaldo and a signed football shirt
  • Super Super Rare: Tickets to the upcoming Binance blockchain week and a training session with Ronaldo himself

Binance x Ronaldo a Strong Partnership

As Rarity Sniper covered in the past year, this is not the first time Binance and Cristiano Ronaldo have partnered for an NFT collection. In fact, the July 3rd collection is the second in a multi-year partnership between the crypto exchange and the football star. The first set launched seven months ago, with similar rarity levels and rewards.

Yi He, Binance co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer, said in a statement that the company wanted to keep building and providing value for the community after the success of the first collection. She remarked that the second collection shows how Web3 is revolutionizing the world of sports.

Ronaldo said that creating this second collection and reflecting on different goals was a very rewarding experience, and he looks forward to training with the select few collectors who win the auctions for the Super Super Rare NFTs.

As with Binance’s other NFT collections, Ronaldo’s two sets go beyond providing collectors with a simple digital token. Instead, the company has added utility to the collection, mostly in the form of memorabilia. In addition, it has turned to an IRL experience — training with the footballer — as a carrot for purchasing the most expensive NFTs, a tactic that many large companies are embracing with their NFT collections.

Time will tell how the NFT community receives the collection and whether it sells out — we are in a significant bear market after all and 29,000 NFTs is a large amount. But given the footballer’s stature, we think it will do well.
