Orange Comet, who partnered with Scottie Pippen for the drop and designed the sneakers, posted a Tweet on Tuesday celebrating the successful drop:

Scottie Pippen also released a video message on Twitter Tuesday, thanking everyone who participated in the drop and helped him along his NFT journey. He added that he was sorry for those who did not manage to mint one his NFTs but said that there is “more to come.”

By hitting the 77-second mark, Scottie Pippen’s collection became the fastest collection launched on OpenSea to sell-out. In doing so, it beat Orange Comet’s other celebrity collection, Anthony Hopkins’ The Eternal Collection, which sold out in seven minutes.

As Rarity Sniper reported weeks ago previewing Pippen’s collection, holders of his NFTs may receive different IRL rewards, including dinner with the basketball star, golf outings, game-worn Pippen sneakers, and more. Orange Comet will also allowlist holders for a future drop.

Athletes Dive into Web3

While many industries have entered Web3 this year, few have done so with as much enthusiasm as the sports industry. In 2022, we have written countless stories about athletes and even sports leagues taking advantage of the next iteration of the internet. Here are three.

First, last week, footballer Javier Mascherano joined Alchemy Pay as a brand ambassador. The company hopes the Argentine will be the face of the company in Latin America. Mascherano announced the move on Twitter, comparing his play on the field to Alchemy Pay’s mission of bridging Web2 and Web3.

Next, also last week, boxer Manny Pacquiao signed a deal to become the ambassador and honorary chairman of two leading Asian NFT companies. Pacquiao said he did so to prepare his fellow Filipinos for the up-and-coming Web3 industry. The Philippines is well-known for Web3 gaming, with a percentage of the population involved in Axie Infinity.

Lastly, a month ago, Neymar held a virtual party to celebrate the live mint of his NFT collection Beastmode. According to sources at the time, the soccer superstar held the party to connect fans and NFT degens from all around the world. To bring the collection to life, Neymar partnered with NFT marketplace NFTSTAR.

Scottie Pippen’s NFT collection selling out in record time is big news for an industry that has slumped in recent months. Here at Rarity Sniper, we’ll keep our ears to the ground for future developments in the story.
