Cosmicrafts is a new futuristic real-time (RT) strategy game from Omar Hernandez, a veteran in the gaming industry, and his team. It’s free to play, and players can experience the excitement of intergalactic warfare as they command their fleets in action-packed battles, as well as collect NFTs and tokens along the way.
Last week, we caught up with Omar to hear more about Cosmicrafts and his thoughts about the future of Web3 gaming. Check it out.
Please introduce yourself and tell us about your role in the company.
I’m Omar Hernandez, the mad scientist behind Cosmicrafts and a veteran of the esports scene. Some call me the Chief Chaos Architect, but I prefer “the guy who’s making mobile RTS [real-time strategy] a thing again.”
My mission? To resurrect the spirit of Starcraft and Command & Conquer and give Clash Royale a run for its money.
What is Cosmicrafts and what is its origin story?
Cosmicrafts was born from a deep frustration with the stagnant RTS landscape (Much like Ethereum from Vitalik’s WoW reasoning for decentralization) and a burning desire to revive the magic of classic RTS games. We envisioned a universe where players could command spaceships, strategize in real-time, and compete for glory on both desktop and mobile.
What makes Cosmicrafts unique?
We’re a genre-bending fusion of classic RTS mechanics, mobile-first design, and blockchain technology. Think Starcraft meets Clash Royale on the Internet Computer – fast-paced, strategic, and fully onchain.
In Cosmicrafts, everything from your spaceships to your player profile is stored on the blockchain. This means you truly own your stuff, it’s all transparent, and super secure. It’s like nothing you’ve ever played before.
How big is your team and where are you based? Can you describe a day in the life of a team member?
We’re a lean, mean, RTS-loving machine, based mostly in Mexico but with tentacles reaching across the globe. A typical day involves brainstorming crazy new ideas, fine-tuning game balance to the nanosecond, and frantically debugging code while chugging gallons of coffee.
Why did Cosmicrafts decide to launch on the Internet Computer blockchain?
We chose the Internet Computer because it lets us build anything we can dream up. It’s fast, cost-efficient, handles massive scale, has zero gas fees for users, and its decentralized setup keeps everything fair and secure. Plus, we trust the DFINITY Foundation — they’ve supported us from the start.
What does your team have planned for the remainder of 2024?
Hold tight, because we’re about to unleash a cosmic storm of updates, features, and surprises. New game modes, epic events, tons of debugging, and collaborations will redefine Cosmicrafts.
We’re adding value with decentralized governance and updates via DAO proposals. Enhancing user experience by pushing blockchain limits, handling waiting times while keeping it secure. Expanding features for long-term goals so players have a game that lasts for years, not just hours. It’s going to be an exciting ride!
Are there any problems or issues you see in Web3 gaming that your game addresses?
We’re tired of play-to-earn schemes that prioritize profit over fun. Cosmicrafts is a free-to-play game with optional play-to-earn elements, designed to create a sustainable and community-driven ecosystem where everyone can thrive.
How can people play the game?
Jump into the beta through our website and download the launcher, join our Discord community to connect with fellow commanders. Reach out to the core team if you have any questions or need help.
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
We’re on a mission to bring back the glory days of RTS and show that Web3 gaming can be both fun and fair. With Cosmicrafts, we’re merging classic strategy gameplay with blockchain technology to create something new. We’re not just talking about the future of gaming; we’re building it.
