Ubisoft Doubles Down on Web3 with Champions Tactics Game

Yesterday, ‘double jump.tokyo,’ a Web3 gaming studio and blockchain app developer in Japan, announced it is teaming up with Ubisoft to provide Web3 integration and marketing in Asia for Ubisoft’s new game Champion Tactics.

The partnership has already integrated ‘Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles,’ a competitive multi-player RPG game by Ubisoft, into double jump.tokyo’s Layer 2 ‘HOME Verse’ blockchain. Now non-fungible tokens and Web3 tech can bring new elements to the game and benefits to players.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard about Champions Tactics in Web3. In December 2023, Ubisoft launched a collection of 9,999 Warlords NFTs that sold in out in minutes. The NFTs promised holders VIP status in the community, in-game perks and rewards, and access to the upcoming Champions mint. According to yesterday’s press release, that drop will occur on July 18th, and an allowlist spot on what is called the “Dark List” will let users mint three free Champions NFTs.

Double jump.tokyo is also using its platform to promote the new game from Ubisoft. Its users can stake $OAS to win a Champions Tactics NFT, and its popular game Brave Frontier Heroes is hosting a Champions Tactics NFT giveaway.

The CEO of double jump.tokyo noted that the partnership was a “milestone” for the company, and that he looked forward to working with Ubisoft to accelerate “the worldwide adoption of Web3 technology.” Didier Genevois, the Web3 Technical and Product Director at Ubisoft, added that the partnership will provide insights “on how decentralized technology can mix with gaming.”

Ubisoft, based in France, is one of the top gaming studios in the world. Its popular titles include Assassin’s Creed, Just Dance, Far Cry, Watchdogs and over 100 more.

Ubisoft Continues to Push in Web3

For gamers excited about Champions Tactics, the new partnership with double jump.toyko and the upcoming NFT drops is exciting news. But this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Ubisoft make a move in Web3. At Rarity Sniper, we’ve written several stories about the innovative gaming company. Here are three of the most recent articles.

First, in December 2023, Ubisoft launched a free NFT drop of 9,999 Warlords NFTs for the upcoming game Champions Tactics. The NFTs sold on in under 20 minutes, and their floor price quickly rose on secondary marketplaces. Today, the floor price is 0.075 ETH (or around $230), and only 2% of the NFTs are listed.

Next, in November 2023, Ubisoft announced a partnership to integrate Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles into Animoca Brands’ Mocaverse. The game became part of the Web3 Frequent Player Program, which lets users earn points by playing, which can then be redeemed for digital and real-world rewards from Animoca Brands’ partners.

Finally, in the same month, Ubisoft partnered with leading Web3 gaming studio Immutable to unleash the potential of Web3 gaming. Ubisoft said it aimed to use its decades of experience to bring top quality games to Immutable’s expanding Web3 gaming ecosystem.

From partnering with top Web3 companies to patiently developing and promoting its first Web3 game, Ubisoft looks like it has a clear vision for the future of gaming — and it’s blockchain based. Only time will tell if Champions Tactics is a hit with players. But the fact it’s coming from a top studio like Ubisoft with over 40 years of experiences in gaming looks like an overall win for the space.
