Yuga Labs’ popular sewer-based game is back with a new edition called “Dookey Dash: Unclogged.” Starting yesterday, players could rev up their scooters to compete for a spot in an end-of-the-year tournament where there will be a million dollars in prizes up for grabs.
The release comes over two years after the original NFT-gated version of Dookey Dash, where players competed to earn a rare digital asset. That challenge was won by “Mongraal” Jackson, an ex professional Fortnite player who received a unique NFT Golden Key that he sold shortly after for 1,000 ETH (around $1.63 million) to billionaire Adam Weitsman. Apparently, Jackson was asked to playtest the new version of the game.
While the core gameplay of the Unplugged version is similar to the first game — players ride an electric scooter through an endless sewer while dodging obstacles— there have been updates, like the addition of a “creator mode.” This feature lets users create, trade, and sell in-game assets like avatars, vehicles, and stickers using the Faraway Creator Suite.
The game encourages competition via weekly leaderboards and frequent battles for prizes, the most coveted of which is the “Golden Plunger.” This tradable NFT unlocks entry into the tournament at the end of the season where there will be a chance to earn prize money. Only players who rank in the top 250 on the season leaderboard, and some lucky users who win by spinning “The Wheel of Dookey,” will make it to the final tournament.
Dookey Dash: Unclogged is free-to-play and can be downloaded on the App Store, Google Play Sore, Mac, and Windows. Each season will be around three months long, with several tournaments expected each year.
Yuga Labs’ Latest Moves in Web3
Yuga Labs, the studio that owns Bored Ape Yacht Club, CryptoPunks, Meebits and others is certainly in the running for the top NFT studio in the world. But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t had to work hard to stay on top, especially during the bear market. Here are three recent moves Yuga Labs has made.
About two weeks ago, Yuga Labs launched “The Workshop,” an incubation program to boost the development of on-chain products. There will be 13 engineers and product experts with a focus on launching high-end products and boosting the utility of the Apecoin token.
Next, in May, Greg Solano revealed plans to release a new NFT game called ‘Project Dragon,’ an action game that can host large-scale battles. The announcement was part of the studio’s “10-day check-in,” which was created to keep the community in the loop about new projects and features.
Finally, in February, Yuga Labs and Magic Eden launched an Ethereum NFT marketplace that enforces creator royalties. The marketplace is the first of its kind, and according to Solana, creator royalties are what keeps people building things that are “fun, weird, and innovative.”
Despite what the bear market has done to the price of NFTs, Yuga Labs has proven its willing to keep building and supporting its community. The launch of Dookey Dash: Unclogged is another example of its commitment, and if it’s anything like the first game, we expect it’s going to make quiet the splash.
