Adidas just announced it’s collaborating with the Japanese fashion brand BAPE (‘A Bathing Ape’) again for a highly exclusive NFT drop tied to physical sneakers and a digital twin.
To celebrate BAPE’s 30th anniversary, a limited-edition of 100 ‘adidas Originals x BAPE Fresh Forum Access Pass’ NFTs will be auctioned on adidas Collect. The lucky winners of the auction will have the chance to burn their NFTs to receive the corresponding pair of physical sneakers, along with an NFT chip featuring a digital twin.
Although adidas has been active in Web3, this will be the brand’s first NFT auction for adidas Originals, making the drop an historic event for sneaker heads and fans of the iconic brand.
Here’s some more information about the launch:
- The auction is open to the public and will take place between August 22nd and August 25th.
- Holders of ALTS by adidas and BAPE’s ‘Apetaverse‘ NFTs can receive an allowlist spot for the drop. They will receive a 10% premium added to their bidding price automatically.
- On September 26th, holders of the 100 NFTs can redeem one pair of physical sneakers and a digital twin via adidas Collect.
- The physical shoes will be shipped in October. Each pair contains an NFC chip inserted in the left tongue, providing the owner with a digital certificate of authenticity.
- The launch is supported by the adidas///Studio (Three Stripes Studio).
- Moonpay, a crypto payment service, will oversee the auction.
Since there will only be 100 Access Passes and physical sneakers ever available, the Fresh Forum NFT drop is being billed as a “chance to own a piece of sneaker history.“ More information about the drop can be found on the adidas Collect website.
adidas Is Forging Ahead in Web3
A year ago, we reported that Nike was leading all fashion brands in Web3, having done a whopping $185 million in revenue from NFT sales in 2022. But this year, adidas has been making Web3 headlines again and again. Here are some most recent stories from the global sports apparel brand.
First, two months ago, adidas partnered with Web3 artist FEWOCiOUS for the “Trefoil Flower Mint Pass” NFT collection. Similar to its most recent drop with BAPEs, each NFT can be redeemed for a pair of real-life Campus 00s sneakers designed by the artist.
Next, four months ago, adidas hooked up with the blockchain-based authentication platform Tokenproof to launch a token-gated feature in its Confirmed app. Now users of the app will have access to virtual and physical events, discounts, airdrops and more.
Finally, adidas announced a dynamic NFT collection called ALTS, the third and final stage of its ‘Into the Metaverse’ (ITM) project. In Phase 3 of the project, NFT characters evolve based on decisions and engagement, leading to the reveal of distinct PFPs at the end of the chapter.
Nike may have dominated Web3 in 2022, but other brands like adidas are doing their best to catch up. At Rarity Sniper, we’ll be following up on the adidas x babe NFT launch and any updates to the story.
