Cryptoys, a Web3 startup backed by Andreessen Horowitz, is launching a Mickey Mouse themed digital asset collection called ‘Mickey and Friends.‘ The NFT collection, which will be usable in the platform’s metaverse ‘Cryptoverse,‘ will also feature other Disney characters like Minnie Mouse and Pluto.

Mickey and Friends will launch in September and is priced at $39.99. The characters will be sold as a ‘blind box,’ meaning purchasers won’t know which character they receive until after the drop. Like other collections from Cryptoys, the NFTs contain rarity features like Common, Rare, Legendary, Grail, and Ultra Grail.

Last year, Cryptoys raised $23 million in a funding round led by a16z. It also saw participation from big names like Dapper Labs, Mattel, Acrew Capital, Draper & Associates, CoinFund, Sound Ventures, and Animoca Brands. The funding helped Cryptoys create Cryptoverse, a decentralized metaverse with immersive gaming and mixed-reality retail.

Will Weinraub, CEO and co-founder of Cryptoys’ parent company Onchain studios, said that the company was honored “to work with Disney in bringing“ many of these cherished friends to life as digital collectibles.

Despite the NFT bear market, Cryptoys has been thriving. The platform has released NFTs for some of the world’s most-known franchises in entertainment history, including Star Wars and Fast and Furious.

Notably, Cryptoys isn’t the first brand to released Mickey Mouse themed NFTs. Earlier in the year, VeVe, a competitor digital collectibles platform, released a Mickey Mouse collection. However, this collection from Cryptoys is set to be even bigger.

NFT Collections Keep Coming

Mickey and Friends from Cryptoys is exciting news for a company that looks poised to have a big influence on Web3 in the years to come. But Cryptoys isn’t the only brand that’s launching NFT projects in the bear market. We’ve covered several NFT collections from big brands and companies recently. Here are the top three stories.

First, about two weeks ago, adidas collaborated with the Japanese fashion brand BAPE for an exclusive NFT drop tied to physicals sneakers. 100 adidas Originals x BAPE Fresh Forum Access Pass NFTs were on auctioned on adidas Collect.

Next, on August 13th, Coca-Cola announced an NFT collection on Coinbase’s new layer 2 blockchain Base. The Masterpiece NFT collection mixes classic artworks like Edvard Munch’s “Scream” with work from emerging artists in Web3.

Finally, about a month ago, Starbucks released the next phase of its Web3 loyalty program with a new NFT collection called “The Green Apron” aimed at honoring the company’s baristas. The NFT set launched on Nifty Gateway and consisted of 5,000 NFTs total.

The NFT market is slow these days, but it’s far from dead. The new Mickey and Friends NFT collection from Cryptoys could help jumpstart things a bit. At the very least, it should be a fun collection for Mickey Mouse fans in Web3.
