Sorare, a blockchain-based fantasy sports startup, has signed a four-year licensing partnership with the English Premier League (EPL) — the most popular football (soccer) league in the world.
The partnership will see all twenty clubs from the EPL integrated onto the platform. It will also contain new gameplay features like league-specific competitions, draft-based gameplay, and a salary capped-mode.
Sorare is an NFT-based sports gaming platform founded in France in 2018. The platform partners with sports leagues to create Ethereum-based NFT trading cards that represent different players. Users can buy and sell the cards and create their own fantasy lineups to earn points based off player’s real-life performances.
Co-founder and CEO of Sorare, Nicolas Julia,” said that since the founding of the company it’s been a dream to partner with the EPL, which has been “home to many iconic moments and players over the last 30 years.” He added that the company was proud to have partnered with the three largest sports leagues in the world — the MLB, NBA, and now the English Premier league.
According to Richard Masters, Chief Executive of the Premier League, fans will be able to experience their favorite teams and players in a unique way via Sorare’s “digital cards and innovative online games.”
Since its founding, Sorare has inked deals with nearly 300 soccer clubs and 50 leagues. Recently, the company partnered with FIFA to launch a free-to-play version of its game for the 2022 World Cup, which led to over 585,000 new users signing up for Sorare.
Sorare is a Leader in Web3 Fantasy Sports
Sorare’s partnership with the EPL is big news for users of the Web3 fantasy sports platform and for football fans around the world. But it’s not the first major partnership involving Sorare in recent months. At Rarity Sniper, we’ve written several articles about Sorare partnering with sports leagues around the world. Here are the top three.
First, about six months ago, the popular Italian football club AC Milan partnered with Sorare. The deal will let AC Milan generate a new revenue stream through NFT licensing and provide immersive digital experiences for fans.
Next, four months ago, Sorare landed a partnership with the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). The partnership launched a blockchain-based fantasy basketball game in October with the NBA’s season opener. It is free to play and lets users create NFT cards of individual players and earn points based off their performance.
Most recently, Sorare linked up with Liverpool, one of the most popular football clubs in the world, to become its official global partner. The deal rewarded fans with exclusive prizes, including match-day perks, multimedia content, and more.
For the moment, Sorare is a leading Web3 platform in blockchain-based fantasy sports, an increasingly popular sector. Its latest partnership with the English Premier League is one of its biggest moves yet, and we expect it will bring some Web3 excitement to football fans around the world.
