TON Ventures Invests in Gamee for Telegram Mini-Apps

Gamee, a Web3 mobile gaming platform and subsidiary of Animoca Brands, has received an investment from TON Ventures, the venture fund of The Open Network, to further develop mini games on Telegram.

The investment will go towards empowering Gamee’s ecosystem and integrating TON-based digital assets such as NFTs and tokens into Gamee’s Telegram mini-apps, including ‘WatBird’ — which has over 4 million players.

The co-founder of Gamee, Bozena Rezab, said that the platform was excited to “deepen” their relationship with TON. He added that they will improve the gaming experience they’ve “built for Telegram with new viral and community-focused mechanics centered around the meme character WatBird.”

Gamee, founded in 2015 and acquired by Animoca Brands in 2020, has over 90 million-plus registered players and has recorded over 10 billion gameplay sessions across 60 casual mobile games. The games are powered by $GMEE, the first gamefi token on Telegram, and players who hold an Arc8 GameFest Pass NFT can earn crypto awards through their gameplay.

Besides TON, Gamee also has over 40 partnerships with top Web3 brands and companies, including Notcoin, Decentraland, The Sandbox, Manchester City, Cool Cats and more.

The news comes as Web3 games on Telegram continue to grow in popularity. Hamster Kombat, launched in March 2024 on TON, has already attracted over 200 million players. The viral game lets players mine $HMSTR coins as they play the hamster CEO of a fictional cryptocurrency exchange.

The Latest from Animoca Brands

Another subsidiary of Animoca Brands making noise in the Web3 gaming space should come as no surprise. After all, the Hong Kong-based venture capital firm and gaming software company has been a leader in the sector since it pivoted to Web3 in 2018. At Rarity Sniper, we’ve covered dozens of articles about Animoca Brands over the years. Here are the three most recent stories.

First, two weeks ago, Animoca Brands partnered with Lamborghini to foster digital experiences for fans and new brand engagement initiatives in Web3. Although details were light, the deal involved Gravitaslabs, an NFT and digital design studio, and the Motorverse, a racing game metaverse.

Next, in November 2023, Animoca Brands partnered with Ubisoft to integrate its new title Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chroicles into the Mocaverse. The game was integrated into Mocaverse’s Frequent Player Program, which enables users to earn points that can be redeemed for digital and real-world rewards from Animoca Brand’s partners.

Finally, in the same month, Animoca Brands partnered with San FranTokyo to promote Cool Cats throughout Asia, especially in Japan. The first initiative involved producing a manga one-shot story illustrated by a top Japanese artist. The deal also involved integrating Cool Cats NFTs into the San FranTokyo metaverse.

It will be interesting to see what new initiatives come out of TON’s investment in Gamee, and how Web3 games on Telegram evolve in the months and years to come. But no matter what, we expect Animoca Brands will continue to be at the forefront of Web3 gaming.
