On April 26th, Mythical Games announced the launch of “NFL Rivals,” a Web3 game where users can form their own team and compete against other players. The game, which is available on the Apple app store and Google Play, has over 150,000 players currently in early access mode, a number the company expects will substantially increase by the end of 2023.

NFL Rivals has two versions: a free-to-play mode and one where users can collect, buy, and sell players in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Currently, there are over 650 players listed on the market. They come with a variety of traits, including eyewear, position, and NFL team, and range from a floor price of $5 to a ceiling of over $12,000.

To create NFL Rivals, Mythical Games has partnered with the National Football League and NFL Players Association. As part of the game’s early access mode — dubbed “Offseason” — the company will host in-game, themed events and issue player packs to celebrate the NFL Draft, which runs from today until April 29th.

Jamie Jackson, the Chief Creative Officer at Mythical Games, said in a statement NFL Rivals will help the company achieve its goal of ushering in a new era of video games and gaming technology. He added that although the game is an opportunity to showcase Mythical Games’ tech, NFL fans will simply find the game fun to play.

Mythical Games Launching “Draft Pick Cards” for 2023 NFL Draft

To mark the 2023 NFL Draft, Mythical Games is launching a special collection reward system that involves an airdrop of a “past NFL great” who was selected in the third round or later in previous NFL drafts. Users who want to participate can take part in two challenges:

  • Challenge 1: Collect five Rare or better Draft player cards
  • Challenge 2: Collect four Epic or better and four Legendary Draft player cards

The reward for Challenge 1 is an Epic player card with a power rating of 115. For Challenge 2, the reward is a Mythical player card with a power rating of 150. Users can collect the needed cards by purchasing in-game packs or buying Draft player cards from the Mythical marketplace. Then, players will need to hold the cards in their account for at least a week while the snapshot is taken.

So far, the company has not released the names of the past NFL greats that will be included in the airdrop. Users will only be able to complete the challenges one time and, after completion, will be ineligible for future distributions based on the 2023 NFL Draft.

While NFL Rivals is capturing news attention currently, the Los Angeles-based Mythical Games has produced much-hyped Web3 games before, including Blankos Block Party. It is known for including NFTs in its games and recently sought to decentralize by forming a decentralized autonomous organization and foundation.
