Web3 livestreaming platform Shiller revealed it has a high-profile co-founder: West Coast rapper Snoop Dogg. The company, which plans to launch the platform in April of 2023, shared the news as part of its invitation to content creators who might want to set up shop on the website.
Snoop Dogg, who has become a well-known figure in Web3 circles since 2021, said in a statement that he is excited to partner with tech entrepreneur Sam Jones to launch Shiller. In the rapper’s view, Shiller gives content creators the opportunity to connect directly with fans, which is something Snoop Dogg has tried to do throughout his career.
While livestreaming platforms are nothing new, most are under the umbrella of Web2. Shiller plans to be one of the first Web3 sites where content creators and influencers can monetize an audience. It will come with all the features of the next iteration of the internet, including token-gated content, the promotion of non-fungible tokens, and tips which creators can cash out to fiat currency.
In addition, content creators will be able to create their own tokens and digital passes, then market them to their audiences using video and audio streams. While the company has already said it has an “army” of creators signed up, one user on Twitter was critical of the company, contrasting it unfavorably to YouTube.
The Doggfather Has Been Busy in Web3
While many celebrities have entered Web3 in the past couple of years, few have done so with as much conviction as Snoop Dogg. The rapper best known for his smooth flow has partnered with metaverses, launched NFT collections, and incorporated his music into this new technology sphere. Here are three of our latest stories involving the Doggfather and Web3.
First, a month ago, Snoop Dogg teamed up with Billy Ray Cyrus and the Avila Brothers to launch an NFT set based on their hit single ‘A Hard Working Man.’ The NFT collection came with three editions (Hustler, Overachiever, and Baller), and the tokens will serve as membership passes.
Next, five months ago, the rapper collaborated with Web3 startup Astro Project to debut a ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’-themed video. The track for the video was Snoop Dogg’s ‘Crip Your Enthusiasm,’ and the video came with an NFT collection of digital donuts.
Lastly, six months ago, Snoop Dogg and Method Man released a single to celebrate International NFT Day. The track, called ‘New Old School Remix,’ debuted exclusively on the TuneGo NFT Marketplace.
As the Doggfather’s involvement in Shiller shows, the rapper shows no sign of slowing down his projects in Web3. Here at Rarity Sniper, we’ll pay close attention for further news from Snoop Dogg and the next iteration of the internet.
