MetaMask Crypto Wallet Enters Web3 Gaming with Unity

Unity, the leading platform for game developers, just introduced an online storefront for decentralized tools. The move adds support for major Web3 players like MetaMask to enter the gaming space.

Now the MetaMask wallet is available under Unity’s “decentralization” category on its online storefront. And MetaMask isn’t the only blockchain-based company to get onboard. Twelve other blockchain-based software developer kits (SDKs) from chains and products have been added, including Solana, Flow, Immutable X, Tezos, and more.

MetaMask tweeted that its SDK “listing in Unity will bring Web3 values to the gaming industry,” and help usher in a “whole new era for gaming devs.” SDKs give developers the tools they need to integrate blockchain technologies like NFTs and the metaverse into the gaming experience. They also let users engage in games through their Web3 wallet.

The most important feature of the MetaMask SDK is it allows developer to make any game Web3 compatible. Players can also connect their MetaMask wallet to buy and sell in-game items, use DeFi games, and more.

Web3 gaming has been rising in popularity, and now it appears Unity, the biggest game engine in the world, is hopping on the bandwagon. MetaMask is one of the most popular wallets in Web3. It was created in 2016 by ConsenSys Software Inc., a blockchain software company focused on Ethereum-based infrastructure and tools.

Web3 Gaming is On the Rise

MetaMask’s integration with Unity is big news for developers and fans of Web3 gaming. But MetaMask and Unity aren’t the only ones bullish on the future of Web3 games. At Rarity Sniper, we’ve covered several articles about blockchain-based gaming in recent months. Here are some of the top stories.

Five months ago, Mythical Games, a popular gaming company, launched a Web3 gaming DAO and foundation to help it decentralize. Among its supporters include Krafton, Ubisoft, Kakao games, Animoca Brands, and more.

Next, GameStop marketplace opened support for NFTs minted via the Layer 2 blockchain Immutable X, allowing Web3 gaming assets to be traded on its platform. Some of the games that are currently available include Gods Unchained, Guild of Guardians, and Illuvium.

Lastly, the Web3 gaming DAO Game7 recently launched a $100 million grant program to help game developers build tools to improve Web3 games. The fund will be used to foster events, education, new technologies, research, and diversity in Web3 gaming.

Web3 technologies like NFTs and the metaverse are opening up an entirely new ecosystem for gamers. As it becomes popular, more brands and game engines are getting onboard. We’ll have to be patient to see how popular MetaMask’s SDK is with developers. But one thing is certain: Unity is bullish on Web3.
